The
Lonavla Yoga Institute was founded in May 1996 by Dr. M.
L. Gharote, a student and collaborator of Swami Kuvalyanana.
Situated at Bhangarwadi, Lonavla Yoga Institute (India)
conducts research, training, and therapy in the field of
yoga.
The institute disseminates knowledge of traditional Yoga in theory and practice through seminars and conferences
in India and abroad. The institute provides facilities for
training individuals and groups of individuals in India
and in other countries. Ancient disciplines of Yoga have
come to us through traditions which were developed during
the periods of history. Old traditions of Yoga are fast
disappearing and it is difficult for many to keep in touch
with the old traditions and their living teachers.
Thus modern teachers of Yoga are deprived of the knowledge
of Yoga traditions. There seems to be also some prevailing
confusions among the modern teachers of yoga. This is due
to non-availability of such authentic and authoritative
works on the subject which might provide conceptual clarity,
in-depth knowledge and also much required insight into the
true nature of this ancient subject to the scholars, teachers
and serious students, which was developed chiefly by the
ascetics exclusively as a part of their spiritual progress.
The source of getting acquainted with Yogic traditions is
through the traditional texts. Many of these are still in
manuscript form and are deposited in the Oriental Libraries.
There is a need of reviving traditional knowledge about
Yoga through the study of traditional texts in modern perspective.
This need was long felt by The Lonavla Yoga Institute (India)
and has started 'Traditional Yoga Revival Movement' by bringing
out authentic traditional Yoga literature to the doors of
Yoga community.
Every year the institute organizes an International Conference
on 17th January and releases its new publication/s on that
same day. This is a grand function and Yoga scholars from
all over the world attend this.
